Product Owner

Product Owners at Bede are responsible for shaping, evolving, and driving the success of Bede’s products. We expect each of our POs to take ownership of a specific product area within the business, establish an expert level understanding of that area and take full responsibility for driving it forward ensuring they are constantly up-to-date with the latest in industry developments and have an in-depth understanding of our customer’s businesses.
The Product Owner will be the ultimate voice of the business within the Tribe (a group of 4-5 engineering teams). They will be accountable for the Tribe Backlog - owning the priority, content, and quality of the Epics and Stories. They will manage the balance between new features, bug fixes, and technical improvements.
Additionally, the Product Owners will be accountable for accepting the changes at the end of every sprint.
Responsibilities:
Vision
● Own, maintain, and curate the Tribe Backlog based on the strategic direction set by the Product Board
Execution
● Contribute towards the Bede Product Roadmap for respective product areas
● Create high-level requirements and contribute towards proposals for new
product initiatives when necessary
● Be a vital part of the Tribe through all aspects of the Bede SDLC
● Serves as the voice of the stakeholder (client or Bede Sponsor)
● Turn high-level objectives/requirements into well understood detailed product
requirements in the form of user stories with acceptance criteria and follow these throughout execution (either by deriving requirements documents from Business Analysts or fleshing out own initiatives)
● Take full accountability for product quality and feature sign off at the end of each sprint
● Collaborate with Team Leads to produce sprint reports and to plot delivery dates (for small to mid-scale projects, large scale projects will have a dedicated Project Manager)
● Be involved in defect triage for both internal defects, as well as external raised defects.
Product knowledge
● Be the product subject matter expert for the relevant product area(s)
● Take full accountability for the product area documentation and own the
strategy for filling the gaps
● Create and contribute product release notes
● Write and maintain product user guides
Attitude
● Collaborate closely with Software Engineers to deliver product increments
● Collaborate with the Product Board to create a compelling product strategy in
line with Bede’s wider vision
● Build positive relationships with external clients and internal stakeholders,
where applicable
● Collaborate with Team Leads to implement continuous improvement practices
Required skills:
● 3+ years of experience in a technology environment, including some practical professional experience in a similar position
● Strong experience in Agile development (SCRUM qualifications would be an advantage)
● Excellent communication skills
● A proven track record in software development with end to end project lifecycle
