Data Management Analyst/Data Engineer

Job Summary

 

The Data Management Analyst will work with all investment management teams to ensure effective use of investment data, underpinned by high quality and clearly defined governance. The role involves acting as a subject matter expert, performing data analysis, quality assurance, and contribute to the development of a cutting-edge data platform to streamline operations and improve the data experience for the firm. 

 

The Team

The Data Management team - part of the Data & Machine Learning group within Man Technology, spans across London & Sofia. The analysts are responsible for the management and maintenance of Man’s security master content, identifier mapping capabilities, onboarding of production data (e.g. reference, alternative, ESG, market data etc.), data cleansing infrastructure, usage analysis and governing market data permissions. The team strives to contribute towards building a robust data management framework, including performing data analysis, building data dashboards, and implementing an optimised on-going data management process.

The team has a start-up, no-attitude feel. It has a flat-structured, open, transparent, and collaborative environment, providing plenty of opportunities to grow and have enormous impact on what we do. We are actively engaged with the broader data and technology community.

 

 Responsibilities

  • Provide first-level data support to portfolio managers, researchers, traders, engineers, and data scientists across the firm.
  • Own and enhance security master content and identifier mapping tools.
  • Lead on the onboarding and integration of varied financial and alternative datasets.
  • Perform data analysis to assess quality, identify gaps, recommend improvements and drive possible automation of daily tasks.
  • Create and maintain metadata documentation, data glossaries, and vendor data catalogues.
  • Manage market data permissions, improve usage tracking, analyse usage patterns, and optimize cost attribution and charge models.
  • Build and maintain dashboards, curate technical documentation, and ensure data integrity.

Essential

  • Experience with data management and analysis, preferably in finance.
  • Proficiency in Python (must) and familiarity with SQL (optional).
  • Knowledge of financial data aggregators (e.g. Bloomberg, Refinitiv, FactSet, S&P) preferred.
  • Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skill.

Advantageous

  • Working knowledge of databases, Linux / UNIX, Git, Jira.
  • Knowledge of database technologies (e.g. Oracle, Snowflake).
  • Familiarity with large datasets and data management tools

Personal Attributes

  • Strong academic background in computer science, mathematics, finance, or related fields.
  • Hands-on, self-organized, and able to manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
